The children’s park was a gift of George Parr to the Hamilton city community. He envisioned the then empty land to be a place where children suffering from illness would play and have fun. The name Parana is a combination of his name with Annie McPherson who has planted trees in the area. Parana park has an outdoor theatre, paddling pool, a kowhai seed fountain, a kowhai leaf-shaped viewing platform, and a kowhai flower slide.
